BRIEFINGS & CELEBRATION
TUESDAY, MAY 11

All Tuesday sessions will take place at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center
1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C., Concourse Level


8:00 a.m.

BUS DEPARTS FROM WASHINGTON PLAZA HOTEL FOR RONALD REAGAN BUILDING AND INTERNATIONAL TRADE CENTER
LOBBY ENTRANCE TO WASHINGTON PLAZA HOTEL, 10 THOMAS CIRCLE
A bus will be available to take participants to the Ronald Reagan Building. Alternatively, participants can walk or take a taxi to the conference site.

Registration will remain open through dinner.

9:15 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. WELCOME PLENARY: MANY VOICES, ONE MOVEMENT

10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. REGIONAL HILL VISITS BRIEFINGS: TAKING OUR MESSAGE TO THE HILL
Learn how to have effective meetings with Members of Congress; learn about the to-dos, not to-dos and easy steps to make your visit to Capitol Hill a success.

11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. LEGISLATIVE ISSUE BRIEFINGS – PREPARATION FOR HILL VISITS
Senior CARE policy experts explore key legislative issues in simple and clear terms so that you are informed and comfortable in delivering messages to Members of Congress on Day 2.

12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. LUNCHEON PLENARY
Politics, policies and international development will be the topics at hand during this important lunch.


1:45 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Afternoon Issue Sessions 1 & 2:
Participants hear from CARE experts and other development professionals about topics such as climate change, food & hunger, and women's empowerment.

4:45 p.m. – 5:45 p.m.

REGIONAL HILL VISITS PREPARATION
All participants will have the opportunity to meet with other members of their Hill Visits team to make final preparation for their meetings with Members of Congress on Wednesday.


6:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. RECEPTION
Following a day of sessions, participants will have an opportunity to enjoy a pleasant reception before dinner.

6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. DINNER PLENARY
Participants will enjoy dinner and hear from our keynote speaker and award recipients as they are honored for their work in humanitarian development.

 

CAPITOL HILL DAY
WEDNESDAY, MAY 12


7:00 a.m. BUSES DEPART FROM WASHINGTON PLAZA HOTEL FOR RONALD REAGAN BUILDING AND INTERNATIONAL TRADE CENTER

7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. BREAKFAST PLENARY:
Participants will receive a brief update on the day's schedule and make final plans with their fellow Hill Visit team members.

9:15 a.m BUSES DEPART FOR CAPITOL HILL

10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. MEETINGS WITH MEMBERS OF CONGRESS
CARE is scheduling small group meetings with your Members of Congress and/or their legislative staff. Participants will receive a packet with their appointment schedule when they arrive in Washington.

12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. CAPITOL HILL LUNCH
In between appointments, participants are invited to stop by one of two locations on Capitol Hill for an informal lunch and a chance to share experiences with other CARE supporters.

3:45 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. CLOSING RECEPTION: CELEBRATING CARE'S CONGRESSIONAL CHAMPIONS
The National Conference concludes with a Capitol Hill reception, including remarks from our Congressional Champions in the fight against global poverty.
